Just Married!

Big happening at the Oslo Lounge on Friday 13 March – the cities of Oslo and Austin are now officially married!
After dating for a couple of years and getting engaged at SXSW last year, the relationship is now formally sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding, signed by Oslo´s Vice Mayor for Culture and Business Hallstein Bjercke and Director of Economic Development at the city of Austin.

Some facts:
Oslo is the fastest growing capital city in Europe. Austin is the fastest growing city in the USA.
Oslo was recently announced as host city for the winter X games in 2016, whilst Austin is home to the summer X games.
The cities are about the same size in number of citizens, and both have a young population.
And both are live music capitals in their regions.

We have a lot in common – it makes sense to work together!

The signing event was celebrated in style at the Oslo Lounge on its day 5, which marked the beginning of SXSW Interactive and SXSW Film. Austin is buzzing and so is the Oslo Lounge, packed with people enjoying specially made Oslopolitan cocktails and a proper Austin BBQ. We also had a talk on foresight and innovation from Anne Boysen, an Oslo-born expert in this field, living in Austin. And Mr Austin, Jim Butler, and Vice Mayor Bjercke from Oslo were in conversation about the role of place and if it matters in our age of connectivity, moderated by Hackney-based pop-up school Let´s Be Brief.

The papers are signed and sealed and the delivery is already starting with the Oslo activities taking place during South by Southwest. More of this!

The Norwegian Classroom at The Oslo Lounge

The third day at the Oslo Lounge was dedicated to presentations and pitching from the promising Norwegian edtech startups that are working SXSWEdu in Austin this week.

Technology in the classroom is changing the way students are learning across the world. Oslo and Norway have some very exciting and fast-growing edtech startups and companies. At the Oslo Lounge event they impressed the crowd with their stories. IKT Norge is organising the companies in a fast emerging edtech cluster, and it was loads of energy and interest around the companies from Norway!
